Monitoring Tree Crops through Earth Observation data

Project at a Glance

Australia is home to a wide variety of tree crops that are vital to the country’s agricultural industry. To ensure the continuous success and sustainability of these crops, it is essential to develop a comprehensive countrywide tree crop monitoring system. Earth Observation data and cloud computing have enabled us to create a more robust tree crop monitoring system to support tree crop health and production in the face of climate change. In this project, we aim to leverage Earth Observation data to develop a web-based tree crop information system that achieves the following objectives.

• Develop a countrywide map of major tree crops across Australia.
• Develop an Earth Observation based approach for monitoring tree crop health and condition.
• Develop a model to predict tree crop production.
• Identify current and future climatic impacts on tree crop production and health.
• Web-based tree crop information to promote climate-smart tree crop production.
